Chasm's Call
2025 Monthly Challenge
BLENDER
DAVINCI RESOLVE
EMBERGEN
From Feb 8th to March 9th an international 3D community challenge took place in which participants create a 3D world based off of an animated template and concept, "Chasm's Call."

My focus during the creation of my submission was to streamline my process to increase what I could accomplish within the timeframe, as well as hand animate the characters within the scene. I also sought to explore stylized semi-realism with my submission piece.

3,018 entries were submitted in total, with 123 countries participating in this event.
The final product
I attempted to keep my challenge submission more straightforward in concept. A survey team on a desert planet, who are studying an odd gate that the residents appear to be drawn to. During their survey, though, the gate begins to draw in a strange power, eventually exploding outward and warping the landscape around it.
Concept Design
For my concept I was heavily inspired by the art of Calum Alexander Watt and his bold use of color and shape. I also felt inspired to create a more desolate world, utilizing atmospheric fog and texture to help distinguish the layers of my scene.

Character - modeling, painting, rigging

Ambitiously, I decided to include two characters as the focus of my scene. Both of them were hand modeled, painted, and rigged. I also focused on baking their normal maps and roughness maps to help cut down on how dense my scene would end up being.
